Heather Matarazzo – age and family

Heather Matarazzo was born in November 1982. She was born to a certain Irish man named Pat Corley from a place called Knock. She was adopted by an Italian American family, Camille and Ray Matarazzo, which was how an Irish girl comes to grow up with an Italian name. She was raised a Catholic in Oyster Bay, New York.

This is the family that Matarazzo has. Heather Matarazzo is sometimes confused to be a relation of the actor Gaten Matarazzo the child actor and singer who was born in 2002 and most known as Dustin Henderson on Netflix science-fiction drama “Stranger Things”. In 2017, Ms. Matarazzo reacted to this, clarifying that: “We are not related. He is NOT my son, though he is adorable and such a good actor.” The confusion originates from the fact that Gaten’s mother is named Heather.

Heather Matarazzo began her career in 1995 when an independent coming of an age black comedy film named “Welcome to the Dollhouse” was to be shot in her home town of New York. It was about a shy and unattractive seventh-grader Dawn Wiener. The producers saw Heather as the perfect person to play the lead role and she did it with a touch of brilliance that she won an Independent Spirit Award for the best debut performance. The film was well-received by both critics where it has between 80 to 90% ratings on sites such as Rotten Tomatoes and made five million dollars of a budget of 800 thousand.

It was this film that shot Matarazzo to the limelight and began her career on a strong foot. Between 1997 and 2000, Heather had her busiest time on screen, featuring in about 15 acting credits on TV and in films. It was in this period that she played what she called her proudest moments on set of “Our Guys: Outrage in Glen Ridge”, in which she played a mentally challenged girl who is raped by football players in 1999.

In 2001, Heather Matarazzo was in “The Princess Diaries” in which she played the role of Lilly Moscovitz Queen of Genovia Mia’s eccentric and socially conscious best friend. The film was produced by Walt Disney and based on Meg Cabot’s novel of the same title from 2000. It made 165.3 million dollars of a budget of 26 million. In 2004, she reprised this role of Lilly Moscovitz in 2004 in “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”.

Her first feature in a hit TV drama towards its end in 1997, in “Roseanne” in which she played the role bearing her first name on CBS. In 1999 and 2000, she was part of the series “Now and Again” on CBS in which she played 22 of all the episodes that make the one-season long drama. From 2006 to 2009, she played an eight-episodic role in “Exes and Ohs” the American and Canadian cable drama on Logo and Showcase. There are other TV appearances such as four episodes in “The L Word” in 2007 and two episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2015.

Sexuality and relationships

Heather Matarazzo is gay. On how it began, she said, “We were sitting in my pink room with pink carpeting. It was summer and we were sitting Indian-style across from each other and I was so incredibly nervous. And I thought, ‘Yeah, I am definitely gay’.”

In 2005, Heather was the keynote speaker r at the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network of Boston’s 15th annual conference, at Brookline High School in which she described her struggle towards acceptance as “such a burden” since she was playing the role of a person strange to her.

Matarazzo must have been in a lot of relationships we know nothing about. It was in 2008 that her relationship became public. It was announced by her PR people that she was engaged to marry Caroline Murphy the musician. The two began dating in 2007 (some publications have put the time as far back as 2004). In 2012, it was reported in the blogs that the two split amicably.
