Category: Movies

This category is used for movies from the West which means they cover movies from the US, Canada, the UK, and other European countries, plus Australia and New Zealand. We are only interested in movies done in the English Language. We are yet to review a single movie from Asia. There are Indian and Hong Kong films in English. We do not just have the kind of resources to cover them all so there is no reason starting what we cannot finish. If we ever cover Asian movies it will be a minority endeavor so we will give it a category of itself so as not to let it get lost in the vastness of “Movie”. So far, it is only Western movies that are covered here. We also have an entry for Netflix movies but we still allow Netflix movies here as well. Which means this category covers theatrical, streaming, and TV movies. The few Nigerian movies we have published are under the entry of Nollywood.

Gangs of Lagos

Gangs of Lagos: A Pulse-Pounding Action Thriller That Delivers on Every Level

Gangs of Lagos is a pulse-pounding action thriller that will leave you breathless. The movie has been touted as one of the most violent and gritty crime dramas in recent time, and it certainly lives up to the hype. From the first scene, you’re thrown into the heart of the criminal Isale Eko underworld, where ...

Shanty Town Review: It’s Ambitious, It’s Rugged, It’s Somehow

I was looking forward to Shanty Town dropping on Netflix. But when it dropped, it wasn’t the movie I expected. It was a miniseries. Again. We saw “Glamour Girls”; we saw “Blood Sisters”; we saw “Far From Home”, etc., in episodic forms. This is not always necessary. Maybe it carries some form of economic importance ...

Every year, people find a way to find things to beef about the Oscars. Oscar 2021 is on record as one with the highest noms for people of color and women. And one or two people o cor won whom I didn’t think should have won but that is not the issue. Anthony Hopkins was ...

Oscar 2021: Full List Of Nominees

On Monday, 15 March 2021, the Academy Award released the list for the longest-awaited Oscar 2021 Award. Not even World War 2 or 9/11 interfered with the timing of the Academy Awards. But the coronavirus pandemic has shown that it wouldn’t leave without impacting, negatively, of course, every sphere of human civilization. Singer Nick Jonas and his ...

Ini Dima-Okojie stars in Namaste Wahala

Namaste Wahala Is Able To Fly Despite Its Zee-Worldly Storyline And Other Jerks

I expected “Namaste Wahala” to be a disaster even before I watched it. I have three reasons for this: One, it’s on Netflix and I have never watched anything romantic and good on Netflix; two, it’s an Indian production which meant it would be a Zeeworld movie; three, the hype on Twitter resembled what I ...

Endless movie review

2020 Endless Movie Review: Not A Bad Day Show

The reason why I watched “Endless” was because I saw the one-star review that Rogerebert.com gave it. I was curious. Why one star? I decided to watch it as I had nothing better to do with my time. Actually, I did have sometime better to do. I was feeling anxious over a gig I was ...

Netflix's Project power

Is Netflix’s Project Power A Good Movie?

I first saw “Project power” cover in a sponsored tweet from Netflix UK and Ireland’s Twitter account. It was a random Saturday after and I was scrolling and scowling down the timeline when I saw the question “What would you chose to become if you have the pill that gives you the power to become ...

Miss Juneteenth

Miss Juneteenth Review: It Would Bore You Before You Love It

I read a couple of “Miss Juneteenth” reviews and they were dripping with milk and honey. Following the murder of George Floyd and the global protests and violence that followed, there is more interest in African American art and culture, and more compassion. I watched “Da 5 Bloods” the other day and I felt it ...

A List Of All The Movies Impacted By Coronavirus

The world is coming to an end. Sports events are canceled or suspended, casinos are shut, restaurants, bars, and parks are closed, the roads are deserted, schools have moved online, churches are empty, holy grounds and monasteries are closed from worshippers, cable networks are running amok and there are no late-night comedians to lampoon the ...

Spenser Confidential

Spenser Confidential: A Big Promise, An Average Offering

With the Coronavirus becoming more than a cause for little concern in the West, its impact on the economy is obvious. Since large gatherings are seen as bedding for the virus, cinemas would be hard hit. Already, the 007 franchise has postponed the last appearance of Daniel Craig as James Bond in “No Time To ...

The Last Thing He Wanted

The Last Thing He Wanted: Now, Here’s A Terrible Movie

When I wrote the review of “The Night Clerk”, I was reluctant to come out clearly and call it a bad movie. It was a confusing movie with weak premises and a plotline that demands a lot of tolerance from you. I concluded that the movie didn’t give itself a lot of redeeming points off ...

The night clerk movie review

The Night Clerk: Is The Movie As Bad As They Say?

What I tell people who are new to writing movie reviews is do not to read other reviews. When you read reviews of more accomplished reviewers, they get into your head and they lead you into thinking their way. But I am not new to reviews. So I went on to read reviews of “The ...
