Marton Csokas was born in Invercargill, New Zealand on June 30, 1996, to a Mechanical Engineer father Marton Csokas, who christened him the same name he bears. His mother’s name is Margaret Christine Rayner and she worked as a nurse. Marton has one brother named Robert whom he grew up in their native country.

Marton Csokas’s father is originally from Hungary while his mother has a mixed ethnicity of English, Danish and Irish. The actor has dual citizenship of Hungary and New Zealand. Growing up, he has always wanted to be an actor and his acting talent could be traced down to his father who was an opera singer back in the days before settling to be a Mechanical Engineer.

Marton schooled at Canterbury University New Zealand where he acquired a Bachelor’s degree in art history and American literature, this was however after his stint in Kings College as an undergraduate. Shortly after he left University he launched his acting career.

Marton Csokas made his screen debut when he starred as Terry Mercer in the TV series “Shark in the Park” a police procedural film. Two years later, he played the role of Sid in the series “The Ray Bradbury Theater” written by Ray Bradbury.

Marton starred in other series, taking up minor roles as producers keep testing his readiness for the acting business. In 1994. He made his film debut in “A Game With No rules” where he portrayed the character of Kane. He was also in the New Zealand Romantic Comedy fantasy film “Jack Brown Genius” as Dennis.

Marton was also in “Broken English” a romantic film before he landed the role of Lord Celeborn in the classic adventure film “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”. Marton’s role in the film expanded his name as one of the actors to watch out for in any movie.  Marton was also in the TV series “Into The Badlands” as Baron Quinns for sixteen episodes.

He continued to star in different TV series and films across continents. Marton also portrayed the character of George in Sydney’s Belvoir Street Theatre’s 2007 production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Following his virtuoso display, he was nominated for the Best Actor in a Lead Role at the 2007 Sydney Theatre Awards.

In 2020, Eleanor Catton’s Man Booker Prize winning novel The Luminaries was turned into a miniseries of the same title and directed by Claire McCarthy. The British and New Zealand collaboration set during the gold rush of the 1860s in New zealand West Coast premiered on TVNZ 1 in May and BBC One in June (all of 2020). The show was made available to US audience via Starz in the United States in February 2014.

In October 2020, he was part of the cast of epic historical drama directed by Ridley Scott set in the time of French nobility and starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, and Ben Affleck. The movie was released theatrical and distributed on-demand and elsewhere by Disney in 2021.

Marton Csokas is currently on set of “Prizefighter: The Life Jem Belcher” a biographical movie about the origin of boxing directed by Daniel Graham and also starring Matt Hookings and Ray Winstone.
