She was born to Luisa Carolina “Carol” Pérez Rodriguez a Cuban model and José Luis Rodríguez a Venezuelan actor, singer, performer, and all-round entertainer known on stage as El Puma. He was somewhat of a controversial figure who lived in exile for a long period of time due to the political dissension of his mom. Mr. Rodriguez was married to Lila Morillo whom he married in 1966 and divorced in 1986.

Mr. Rodriguez met Carol just after his divorce or towards the end of it, we are not sure. Genesis was born a year after the divorce of her father’s first wife. In 2013, she played the crooked FBI Agent Ellen Richards in “The Last Stand” a film directed by the brilliant South Korean Kim Jee-woon in his Hollywood debut and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The stage was set for this blockbuster which was made with 45 million dollars but it didn’t leave up to it. It only made 48.3 million at the box office. The same year, she was in “Identity Theft” a comedy film in which a woman stole the identity of a man. The next year, she played the voice role of Honey Lemon in the Disney animated film “Big Hero 6”.
