Gary Cole is the son of a school administrative assistant Robert Cole while her mother Lois Cole worked as director of finance. Gary was born in Park Ridge, Illinois but was raised in Rolling Meadows with her elder sister Nancy.

Gary Cole was married to actress Teddi Siddall. Teddi appeared on many episodes in “Grey’s Anatomy”. They wedded on March 8, 1992. Together they welcomed a daughter named Marry who diagnosed with Autism when she was just two years of age. During the period while she was undergoing some medications, Gary became involved with Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit group that trains assistance dogs for individuals with disabilities.
Gary and his wife helped their daughter Mary to fight autism the best way they could. Currently, Mary is pursuing a career in Hollywood. Unfortunately, Gary lost his wife Teddi who passed away on February 4, 2018.
