Scott Patterson was born in September 1958 as Scott Gordon Patterson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother Hope Gordon was a Jack of creatives who did acting in local theatres, journalism, homemaking, among others. His father Francis Ford Patterson IV was into advertising. Patterson was raised in Haddonfield, New Jersey and attended Haddonfield Memorial High School. His parents divorced in 1974.
Talking about the early career of Patterson deals with his sojourn in the music world. In grade three and for the rest of his high school days, he was a part of a two-boys band with his friend Tommy Poitras known as the Unknowns. They didn’t have a song of their own but they did well with performing songs of the Beetles, Tommy Boyce, and Bobby Hart. After high school, the band disbanded.

He attended Rutgers University where he earned a degree in Comparative Literature where he became interested in acting. Scott Patterson played baseball a lot at high school so much that he went on to make a living off it. He played baseball in the minor leagues for seven seasons and even had times with the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees, and Texas Rangers. He even played in the Puerto Rican and Dominican leagues but never the US Major League. Patterson played till 1988 before deciding sports wasn’t the way to go.
He founded the Arclight Theatre Company with John Bishop and they went on to produce the works of the greats including that of Williams Shakespeare. It was with this company that Patterson made his professional debuts on the stage. In 1992, he made his first appearance on screen in the film “Intent to Kill” detailing drug trafficking, prostitution, and police procedures. His next movie “Little Big League” was like a homecoming for him as it involved the central theme of baseball.
Patterson’s best moments on the screen came in the new century when he played the role of Agent Peter Strahm in the horror film series “Saw” – appearing in the fourth, fifth, and final installment of the blockbuster series between 2007 and 2009. It was also around this time that he played his most extensive role on TV when he appeared in 154 episodes of Gilmore Girls” on The WB, playing the role of Luke Danes a restaurant owner and friend of lead character Lorelai Victoria Gilmore, a girl he loves and tries with little luck to make her see the picture. A certain Liza Weil is one of the stars in this show.
Patterson was also a main part of the CW’s “Aliens in America” (2007 to 2008, 18 episodes) and NBC’s “The Event” (2010 to 2011, 16 episodes). Including a handle of small roles in TV series including “90210” on CBS and roles in TV films including “Kidnapped: The Hannah Anderson Story” on Lifetime TV in 2015.
As a voice artist, he was the voice of James Gordon in Warner Bros. animated Batman: Gotham by Gaslight in 2018.

Scott Patterson got married two times. First, he was married to his high school sweetheart in Vera Davich in 1983. The marriage was surprisingly short-lived as man and wife divorced in 1985. Patterson was not in a hurry to remarry. In fact, he would stay unmarried for the rest of the century only trying again in 2001. This time, he settled for an actress whose most known act was in “Gilmore Girls” in 2000 and that might even be where Scott met his Juliet.
The couple has one child together, a son named Nicholus Patterson and born to them in 2015.
