Megan Follows was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in March 1968. She was born into a family of entertainers. In her words, “My parents lived, breathed, ate and slept theatre.” Her mother is the actress Dawn Greenhalgh who was born in China and has made a name for herself on screen; she is most known for her roles in the films “The Virgin Suicides” (1999) and “Maps to the Stars” (2014). Greenhalgh got married to Ted Follows in 1958.

Ted Follows is was a theatre man and director. He is most recognized for his role of Macduff in Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” on stage and also on TV. The marriage between Dawn and Follows ended in divorce in 1978. By now, the couple already produced four kids. Megan Follows you have already met; she is number 2: Her elder sister Edwina is a writer, her brother Laurence is an actor, and the young sister Samantha Follows is an actress who is married to the actor Sean O’Bryan.

Two or three singular episodic appearances followed before being part of “Matt and Jenny” the Canadian drama on Global Network for 26 episodes.

Her most prominent act on TV and elsewhere was in 1985 in “Anne of Green Gables” film miniseries on CBC. The films are based on the novel of the same name by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery and had four installments in all including “Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel”, “Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story”, and “Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning”.  Megan played the lead role of Anne Shirley then a 13-year-old orphan living in servitude with the cruel Hammond family in Nova Scotia who was adopted into a new home. Follows didn’t reprise this role in the last film in 2008.

In Hollywood, “Law & Order”, “ER”, “The X-Files”, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “CSI: Miami”, “Cold Case”, “Lie to Me”, “Reign”, etc are some of her most popular TV series. “Reign” the historical show about Mary, Queen of The Scots on The CW stands out. Megan Follows played the role of Catherine de’ Medici, an Italian noblewoman who at the peak of her power was a ruler in France for 78 episodes between 2013 and 2017. It is for this role that many younger moviegoers who might not have seen the original “Anne of Green Gables” film nor relate to the later installments know her for.

Outside the TV, Megan was in the 2004 American Christian film titled “Christmas Child”. She was also on “Silver Bullet” an adaptation of Stephen King’s novella, “Silver Bullet”. She co-starred with Corey Haim and Gary Busey in this 1985 film.

Megan Follows was married in 1991 to Christopher David Porter the cinematographer and photographer. They are blessed with two kids, Lyla Porter-Follows and Russell Porter-Follows. Lyla is an actress. She was born in Toronto and grew up in Los Angeles. She is most known for playing Clenna Dolan on “Frontier” (Netflix) and Ellen Norwood on “Reign” (The CW). The second Russel Porter-Follows is also into show business.
