Carey Lowell is the daughter of a geologist named James Lowell. She was born in Huntington, New York. Due to her father’s job, Carey grew up in different parts of the world like the Netherlands, France, and Libya, in North Africa. When her family finally moved back to the US, they first settled in Houston Texas before moving to Denver Colorado.
After graduating from high school, Carey gained admission at the University of Colorado Boulder where she majored in literature, however, she dropped out after a year and moved to New York City to chase a career in modeling. Carey Lowell made her acting debut in 1986 in the film “Dangerously Close” as Julie. The film was a heavy buzz during its release, however, it received strong negative reviews with some critics saying that the director spent so much time thinking about the movie and not the audience it was meant for. In 1991, Carey appeared in the romantic comedy series “Born to Ruin” as Jesse Tailor. But the tile of the TV series has nothing to do with her career, as the road to her acting journey never led her to ruination. Her big break came in 1996 in the NBC police procedural legal drama “Law & Order” where she portrayed the role of Jamie Ross an assistant district attorney. Carey also reprised the same role on NBC “Homicide: Life on the Street”.
