Colin has a brother named on Ron Cunningham, and an older sister Rainy Dan Lorell.
Colin flirted with adventure as a teen and travelled a lot in order to discover his true self. In 1993, he left Los Angeles and relocated to Vancouver, Canada, Colin attended Vancouver Film School.

A year later, he made his motion debut in “Hard Evidence”. He starred in many films and television series during the early ’90s and 2000s. Colin appeared in the Canadian military science fiction “Stargate SG-1” in a recurring role. He played the role of Brian Curtis, a crooked cop, in the popular, award-winning Canadian series “Da Vinci’s Inquest”. He appeared as Steven Lefkowitz in the short-lived jPod and in several episodes of The L Word. Perhaps his most famous role on TV happened between 2011-2015 when he played the character of John Pope in the post-apocalyptic science fiction television series “Falling Skies” which tells the story of a former history professor who becomes the second-in-command of the 2nd Massachusetts Militia Regiment, a group of civilians and fighters fleeing Boston following an alien invasion that devastated the world. The series was produced by legendary producer Steven Spielberg.
Colin Cunningham wrote, directed, and starred in a short film titled Centigrade,[5] a contemporary thriller. It was the winner of the 2007 Kick Start Award [6] and in 2008 made the ‘short list’ for an Academy Award Nomination.
