To say the truth, no one reads the intro of awards nominations. But our English teacher taught us to start with an intro. More so, the more words I can pop here, the more ads I can sell. More or less. The nominations for the 94th Academy Awards or just Oscar 2022 were announced today, 8 February 2022.
The actress and host Tracee Ellis Rossor Dr. Rainbow Johnson in the ABC comedy series “Black-ish” or just Diana Ross’s daughter did the honors of calling out the name of the list. She didn’t do this alone. There was a gentleman with her. The actor and writer whom I haven’t heard about until today (shame on me, whatever) Leslie Alan Jordan.
I made a weak mental note to scream the announcement but I said, why the f- should I bother, can always copy-paste from the big boys whose broadband are bankrolled by capitalists in New York or London.
According to CNN whom we copied, the films nominated cover a wide range of genres. And affirms what I fear to confront. I am yet to recover my pre-covid cinema-going balls. Some of these movies are on Netflix but I only watch the most hyped shows there such as “Squid Game”.
I can see as you would that “The Power of the Dog” led among nominated films with 12 nods. The drama’s director, Jane Campion, made history by becoming the first woman to be nominated more than once for best director. (Her previous nom was for “The Piano” way back in 1994).
I intend to watch many of the movies on the list of Best Picture. Will start with Campion’s “The Power of the Dog”.
Denzel Washington extended the record he already holds as the most nominated Black actor, earning his tenth Oscar nomination for his performance in “The Tragedy of Macbeth.” The second movie I will see. Will Will Smith finally get an Oscar? I pray.
Oscar 2022 is set to take place on Sunday, March 27. I have more than seven weeks to successfully two and a half of the movies. Judge not.
