We had AY Makun on the group Zoho topics for months now and no one thought to write about it. It now falls on me to do it. I believe this should be fun – it just had to be fun. AY is someone I first saw when Nokia Express Music phone became popular. It was his Who Wants to Be A Millionaire parody and I thought it was moderately funny but in no way did it merit the guffaws I hear. And this has been the life of AY so far, unmerited laughter, unmerited clicks, and unmerited account balance. Or it may be truly merited and this might just be a broke blogger badmouthing a legend in the game. What game?
AY Makun Age and state
AY Makun was born Ayodeji Richard Makun in August 1971 as the first in a family of seven kids. He is from Ifon, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State. This is not to be confused with Ifon in Orolu Local Government Area of Osun State. I had always thought AY was from Delta State as this is what he has always projected and is one of the most vocal “Warri no dey carry last” slang. His connection with Delta State happens to come from the fact that he studied at Delta State University, Abraka – spending nine years in a four-year course. If you have been searching for an excuse to call AY dull, this is it but education is not the best test of a hustler – we know all the parameters of testing a hustler and AY ticks all the boxes.
AY Makun is 48 years old.
AY Makun – Career
AY Makun began doing comedy in the campus. While on campus, he was so good or so popular with his acts that he was voted best show-biz promoter. After school, he worked as Alibaba’s personal assistant and event planner. This must have been where he horned his comedic art. AY is a comedy entrepreneur. He organizes the AY Live yearly show which features an ensemble of star-comedians. He owns and stars in the AY Crib with Alexx Ekubo and Venita Akpofure whom you might have seen in 2019 Big Brother Naija. AY parodies events and shows and also acts in feature-length films. Now he also makes them.

Some of the movies AY has made and starred in include “30 Days in Atlanta” (2014) starring Ramsey Nouah, “A Trip to Jamaica” (2016) starring Funke Akindele-Bello, “10 Days in Sun City” (2016) starring Adesua Etomi and RMD, “Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons” (2018) with Ramsey Nouah, Falz, Jim Iyke, Ireti Doyle and Nancy Isime, “Merry Men 2” (2019) etc. While it can be said that the jury is still out on his acting and funny side, AY has made movies in the top 20 of the most grossing films. He has also featured in “The Wedding Party” films that made hundreds of millions.
Wife and family
Ay Makun is a married man. He got married to Mabel in November 2008. He was 37 at that time and heading towards what Nigerians would call, and you should call Jim Iyke, a chronic bachelor. He has now celebrated eleven years as a married man. The AY-Mabel union is blessed with a daughter.

Net worth
Whenever you talk about the richest comedians in Nigeria, AY Makun’s name would find its way in the top 3. Basketmouth and Ali Baba are two other comedians that usually make the list. This is just a pointer to how rich AY could be and in no way the real representative of the kind of money he has. This is Nigeria where wealth is impossible to calculate. It is either grossly inflated or grossly understated. For instance, Julius Agwu is usually mentioned among the top ten richest comedians and I know for sure he is not top 30.
According to Nigerianinfodepia, AY’s net worth is estimated to be around 2 million US dollars (which is over 700 million naira). I have also seen a site quoting Forbes and claiming 3 billion naira for AY. Three billion is around eight million dollars. You can see the crazy difference. The latter amount is ridiculous but it is the amount that is most likely to be believed by many. If you ask me, I would say AY is worth around 100 million naira and I will still feel like an exaggerator.
