Uniport

Established in 1975, the University of Port Harcourt is one of the famous second-generation universities in Nigeria. The university prides itself “For Enlightenment and Self-Reliance” and has largely lived up to this slogan in the caliber and size of its alumni. You probably know that names such as Goodluck Jonathan, Rotimi Amaechi, Timipre Sylva, and Tonye Princewill graduated from Uniport. You don’t know everything so there is no fine for missing the fact that the following entertainment figures bagged degrees from the university.

Uniport: Agbeni Darego

Former Miss World. No, you didn’t know she is a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt. You are forgiven. Agbeni who in 2017 got married to Ishaya Danjuma, the billionaire son of ex-military leader T.Y Danjuma, is not the kind of person you would be interested in her education. Her status means that her height, her career, her beauty, her partner, etc. were bound to command more attention than her education. Well, Agbeni Darego MFR is a bona fide graduate of Uniport where she earned a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics.

Six Hot blonde actresses

Agbeni Darego is the first black African winner of the Miss World pageant and Uniport should be proud of its role in the making of the model.

Rita Dominic

Full name: Rita Uchenna Nkem Dominic Waturuocha. Date of birth: July 12, 1975. Rita Dominic is an indigene of Mbaise, Imo State. She is a popular face in Nollywood and one of the legends in the industry. Rita is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt. She got her degree in 1999. By the time she left Port Harcourt, she had already starred in her first movie, “A Time to Kill”. More than two hundred movies later, Rita Dominic has shown no sign of waning.

Why wane when there is a lot to be made from acting? According to Legit.ng, we have no way of telling how legit this piece of information is, Rita Dominic is the richest actress in Nigeria.

Uniport entertainer-alumni: Clem Ohameze

Born on 27 June 1965, Clem Ohameze is a Nollywood veteran with nearly a quarter of a century in the industry and, it is believed, up to 500 movies under his belt. Ohameze had a stint in politics which didn’t end well. He lost his cousin and faced serious threats to his life. The aftermath saw him flee to London where he had previously obtained a Master’s degree (Buckingham University).

He is also a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt in 1989, leaving with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology. Nothing related to the art, but when you watch him on the screen, there is no denying his huge talent. Figures don’t lie and staring in six figures movies can’t be accidental.

Patience Jonathan

You might have thought she didn’t go to school at all. Yes, while she was the first lady of Nigeria, some of her grammatical misfires were a goldmine for comedians and jesters and might have given her the perception of an uneducated woman. Nothing can be wronger than this. Patience Jonathan is not just educated, she is what we call well-educated.

Mrs. Jonathan has an NCE from Rivers State College of Art and Science now Port Harcourt Polytechnic in 1989 (before some of her infamous grammar coaches, it must be mentioned, were born). She then got a B.Ed in Biology and Psychology from the University of Port Harcourt. Not satisfied with these, the former First Lady returned to Uniport and accepted an honorary Ph.D.

5 Fast Facts about Enyinna Nwigwe

Mrs. Jonathan is not your professional entertainer like Basketmouth, Simi, or Tonto Dikeh, in that she doesn’t get paid to entertain people. She is not one of them in this regard. But people who can remember her time in Aso Rock will struggle to suppress a smile. She was one of them.

Uniport: Monalisa Chinda

Monalisa Chinda was born in September 1974 in Port Harcourt. She is from the Ikwerre ethnic group. She attended her primary and secondary schools in Port Harcourt. For university, she didn’t leave her home time as she bagged a degree in Theatre Arts from Uniport in 2000 (which makes her one year Rita Dominic’s junior). By the time she left the university, she was already four years in the movie industry.

Chinda is a married woman. She is married to Victor Tonye Coker since 2016 for which she now goes by the name Monalisa Chinda-Coker. Before him, she was married to Dejo Williams whom she divorced in 2009. Besides acting, Chinda is a film producer, column writing, and media consulting. In April, a high court in Lagos issued an arrest warrant for her alleged evasion of tax. But I won’t go deep here as we intend to make this a happy ending.

Other figures you may not know studied in Uniport include Muma Gee, Bimbo Manuel, etc.
