She furthered her academics by getting admitted to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania at age 15 from the creative writing scholarship she was awarded. However, she had to quit college and move to New York City in order to pursue her dream of being a model.

She was to come back to Edinboro University to complete her degree later in the year 2016.
While she was in school at her first stint in 1975, she won the title of Miss Crawford County in Pennsylvania and in the next year she was competing as a candidate for Miss Pennsylvania. It is at this point that she had to make the decision of dropping out of school to focus on modeling.

The 5 feet 8 inches (1.74m) tall actress met her first husband, Michael Greenburg, a movie producer, in the year 1984 while on the set of “The Vegas Strip War” a movie produced by him with Stone in the lead. They got married that same year. They separated 5 years after and had a divorce in 1990.

The most dramatic of her personal life was the one she had with William MacDonald who was producing the film “Sliver” in which she was starring. Macdonald left his wife and proposed to Stone. The next year, the engagement was broken off and Stone returned his engagement ring through a shipping company, FedEx.

She was subsequently engaged to Bob Wagner in 1994 but this did not end in a marriage.

She married San Francisco Chronicle editor Phil Bronstein in 1998. They divorced in 2004 after they have adopted a son in 2000 of which Phil retained primary custody. In 2005, she adopted a son and named him Laird Vonne Stone. A third son Quinn Kelly Stone was adopted a few years later.
