Robert Gant was born on July 13, 1968, in Tampa Florida, USA. There is little or no information about his parents or siblings but the actor was raised Baptist. He picked interest in the entertainment business very early in his life by joining the Screen Actors Guild at the tender age of ten. After his graduation from high school, he proceeded to the University of Pennsylvania and was part of various singing groups and theater productions where he continued to horn his acting skills. Robert completed his law school studies at Georgetown University.

He started practising as an attorney shortly after college and moved to Los Angeles where he was favoured with a fortune when bagged a job at Baker & McKenzie law firm. Unfortunately or fortunately, his office law firm in Los Angeles was shut down and being closer to Hollywood, he switched career easily and made his movie debut.

Robert Gant made his acting debut in the film “Bitter Vengeance” as bookstore customer.  It was a minor role but it was deserving as he continued to prepare himself for the acting journey. In 1994, he appeared in an episode of “Ellen” as Dr Garber.

He played the role of a Professor in “Teaching Mrs Tingle”. The film tells the story of three high school seniors who must prove their innocence to their vindictive history teacher, who accuses them of cheating on their exams. The film received negative reviews and it flopped badly in the box office as it failed to generate the revenue used in making it in the first place.

In 2002, Robert landed the role of Professor Ben Bruckner, a HIV carrier college professor college who becomes Michael’s long-term partner from Season 2 onwards in the Showtime series “Queer as Folk”. This role made him popular from his fans equally gave the LGBTQ community more voice as his union with Michael became the first openly gay legalized marriage on TV.

He played a recurring role in four episodes of “The Young and the Restless” as David Sherman. Robert also appeared in some other gay films like “Friends” and “Kiss me Deadly”.  He co-produced, co-wrote, and starred in the Netflix-distributed period drama “Milada,” which narrates the true story of Czech heroine Milada Horakova, who was, in 1950, the first woman executed in Czech history by the Communist government. Robert is also a co-founder of a production company called Mythgarden, which he formed with producer Christopher Racster and actor Chad Allen.

Currently, he is writing movie scripts as he prepares to publish his debut novel. Robert has received some industry awards as well.

Robert Gant has publicly identified as gay. He has embraced his sexuality with pride after years of being in the closet. “I think as a kid I wasn’t even aware of the extent to which my freedom was being infringed upon. We’re conditioned not even to know that we’re not free. When you think about what we all believe America to be, it just seems ludicrous that so much of America’s populace lives in this sort of prison. I think coming out for me is really about tearing down the prison wall.” He revealed.
