After studying in Paris, she returned to Dublin and landed a role of Adela in the House of Bernarda Alba at the Gate Theater. She settled quickly in theater roles and stayed with the Balloonatics Theatre Company, touring productions of Hamlet and Finnegans Wake. Orla also played the character of Natasha in the play “Three Sisters”.

She moved to London and played Kate in “Brian Friel’s Philadelphia, Here I Come”, which later transferred from the King’s Head Theatre to the West End. It was in England that she made her professional debut in “Blinded by the Sun” by Stephen Poliakoff at the Royal National Theatre.
