The film was a commercial success and Nicole was praised for her acting skills. Perhaps the praises were not enough, she won the Best Actress Award in the African-American Film Critics Award for her role.
Nicole continued her blistering start to her career by appearing in an episode of CBS medical drama series “Three Rivers” as Helen Reed. In 2010, she appeared in the film “Sins of the Mother” playing the role of Shay Hunter, a struggling university student who goes on a journey to mend her fractured relationship with her mother Nona played by Jill Scott.
It didn’t take long before she introduced her voice to the world by performing five original songs as a singer-songwriter opposite German actor Ken Duken in the romantic comedy “My Last Day Without You”. In 2012, she played the role of Piper, a troubled young woman who never leaves her apartment.
