Nicole Ari Parker’s career began in 1993 in the film “Other Women’s Children”. It took her just two years to establish her prominence as an actress of note. She played Evie Roy the gay partner of the protagonist Randy Dean played by Laurel Holloman in “The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love” in 1995. It was a bold film, made in a time when homosexuality was still seen as a taboo by a majority of the people although the producers passed the film as a love story between two first-time teenagers. The film made nearly two million dollars in the box office from an estimated budget of 250 thousand. It was the good reception of this movie that shot Nicole into the limelight and for which she is still remembered today.

In 2000, Parker began to play the most extensive role of her career in the serial drama “Soul Food” on Showtime. She played the role of Teri Joseph in a drama which follows the triumphs, struggles, and rivalries of a tight-knit African-American family in Chicago. Parker was one of the few members of cast to feature in all the 74 episodes of the five seasons. In the same year Soul Food finished, Parker began acting in the drama “Second Time Around” on UPN. She acted her role of Muse into the next year (13 episodes in all).
From 2017, Ms. Parker began playing the role of Gissele Parker in the musical drama “Empire” on Fox. She started in season four as a recurring member of the cast then got promoted to a main cast member for the fifth season.

Currently, Nicole Ari is married to the actor Boris Kodjoe. Kodjoe is the actor who played Kelby in the film “Brown Sugar” in 2002. Nicole, too, was in this film and this might have been where they first met. Kodjoe was born in Austria with German and Ghanaian (and from his great grandmother Jewish) heritage. The two got married in 2005.
The marriage which took place in a place called Gundelfingen, Germany, is blessed with two children. Their daughter was born in March 2005 two months before her parents tied the knot while their son was born in October 2006. Their first child was diagnosed with spina bifida at birth, a birth defect in which the spine is incompletely closed.
