Moira Kelly: Age and early life

Moira Kelly was born on March 6, 1968, in Queens, New York to Peter Kelly and Anne Kelly. Her father was a professional concert violinist and her mother worked as a nurse. Kelly has five more siblings and they all grew up in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, New York.

Growing up, Kelly picked the musical gifts of her father and became very good with the violin; adding the drum and the flute to her art. She attended Connetquot Senior High School in Bohemia, Long Island and after her graduation in 1986, she gained admission to study at Marymount Manhattan College where she bagged a degree in Drama in 1990.

Her university days were not what you will call bread and butter. She had to do several odd jobs to support herself in college.

Career

Moira wanted to be a Reverend Sister following her deep Catholic convictions. However, during high school days, she replaced a sick girl who was billed to play the role Miss Hannigan in the film “Annie”. After her role in the film, Moira quietly moved from her nun dream and firmly pursued a career in the screen.

Her professional acting debut came later in the miniseries “Love, Lie, Murder” playing the role of Cinnamon Brown in 1991. The same year, she starred in four more films including “The Boys Who Cried Bitch” (always) and “Thirty Below Zero”.

Moira was also in the science fiction television drama series “Heroes” which aired on NBC. Moira portrayed the role of Abby Collins. The series told the stories of ordinary people who realized they had superhuman powers. She was also in the American legal comedy-drama series “Drop Dead Diva” as Cindy Kasper

Kelly landed more acting roles as her career advanced. Karen was in “One Tree Hill” as Karen Roe from 2003 to 2009. She also appeared in “Law & Order” as Katherine Donovan. As a voice artist, Moira has lent her voice to the Disney “The Lion King” series from 1994 to 2004. She also voice-acted in the video game “Lion King”.

With more than 50 acting credits, Moira received the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance in the series “The West Wing” on NBC by Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2001. One of her latest screen appearances was in the 2018 film “Girl in the Bunker” where she played the role of Madeline Shoaf.
