Martin Henderson was born on October 8, 1974, in Auckland, New Zealand. His mother’s name is Veronica while his father bears Ian Henderson. There is no information about his parent’s occupation or siblings.
He attended Birkenhead Primary and Westlake Boys High schools where he landed a role on the TV series “Strangers”. It was within this period that he discovered his acting talent and refused to proceed to the University; he must have seen it as a waste of time.
He started making appearances in films in New Zealand until he moved to the US in order to advance his career. He studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York for two years and struggled for roles before he saw the light Heath Ledger whom he had worked on the Australian series “Sweat”.

Martin Henderson started his acting career at the age of 13 in New Zealand. He made many films in his native country and even won an award as the Best Male Dramatic Performance in a Television Show award at the New Zealand Television and Film Awards in 1993 for his work on the New Zealand series “Shortland Street.”
He appeared in “Kick”, for which he was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2000. In 2001, he had it difficult finding roles in films initially until he was cast in a supporting role in the John Woo-directed war film “Windtalkers”.
In 2002, he appeared opposite Naomi Watts in the horror film “The Ring”. The film was a commercial success and he became quite popular. He played the role of Cary Ford in the biker film “Torque” which was released in early 2004. He starred opposite Aishwarya Rai in the romantic film “Bride and Prejudice” and was also seen in Britney Spears’ “Toxic” music video.
He was supposed to appear alongside Jordana Brewster in the television series adapted from the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. However, the series was not picked up by any network. In 2011, he was cast as Dr. Benjamin “Ben” Keeton in the ABC medical drama series “Off the Map”.
In 2015, Martin was introduced in the sixth episode of the “Grey’s Anatomy’s” twelfth season as new cardio attending at Grey-Sloan Memorial where he started a romantic relationship with Meredith Grey, who became a widow after the death of Derek Shepherd. Martin stayed on the show until 2017 in the episode “Danger Zone” when he and Megan start their life anew with her son in Los Angeles.
He is currently playing the lead role in the romance drama web series “Virgin River” in 2019. He has bagged several nominations in the Australian film awards. He might not be much of a big star but he has appeared in big films which means he is not a newcomer in the industry. With age being on his side, Martin still has much to offer to the entertainment world.
