1. Lori Petty is the daughter of a preacher
Lori Petty is the daughter of a Tennessee Pentecostal minister who traveled around the country to preach the gospel. Lori and her two younger siblings seldom times followed their father in these missionary journeys. But these journeys meant more than a daughter accompanying her father to work, it was a self-discovery period for Lori as she saw the world from a different angle.
The family was not a rich one as Lori and her siblings relied on her father’s paltry salary to take care of the bills at home. Lori graduated from North High School in Sioux City, Iowa where she was the first female editor of the school’s newspaper and a member of the debate team. She was born on October 14, 1963. Lori Petty is currently 55 years old.
2. She worked as a graphics designer earlier in her career
Following the family’s financial status, Lori did not make it to college instead she settled for jobs in order to support the family. She pursued a career in graphics design for many years in Omaha, Nebraska until she got bored of the Photoshop and Illustrators software.
Lori moved to New York and enrolled in an acting school after which started waiting for an opportunity to come her way. She applied for many Broadway production advertisements but it seems it her location was making it harder for her breakthrough to come, then she moved to Los Angeles and acting career began.
3. Lori Petty directed and wrote The Poker House
Lori was inspired by the trauma she passed through while growing and she adapted it onto the screen as a film. “The Poker House,” tells the story of how she was physically abused by her father who also tortured her mother emotionally and mentally until she filed for a divorce and began to make a living from the street as a sex worker to feed them.
But Lori made her acting debut in 1985 when she appeared as Brandi on CBS crime drama television series “The Equalizer”. A year later, she appeared as Lori Pendleton on CBS “The Twilight Zone”. Lori was on NBC “The Stingray” as Lisa Perlman. All these appearances were minor roles but enough to encourage her that resigning from graphics designer job wasn’t bad after all.
In 1988, she made her debut in the film “The Haven’t Seen This” in an uncredited role. Her first big role came in 1991 in the film “Point Break” where she portrayed the character of Tyler Endicott. She played the character of Kit Keller in the 1992 film “A League of Their Own”.
Lori made other appearances in films and television series and even hosted a show entitled “The Parkers”. Soon she lent her voice in Warner Brother’s “Livewire”, “Superman: The Animated Series” and “The New Batman Adventures”. Following some of her works on the screen, Lori Petty won the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. In 2016, she won the same award for the second time. She also appeared on Fox television serial drama “Prison Break”.
4. The filmmaker is not married
Lori Petty does not hide her relationship status. She is not married for a reason and she has stated why. The actress once revealed in an interview that the abuse and emotional trauma her Evangelist father made her mother passed through planted a seed of matrimonial hatred in her. Some fans have suggested that she might be a lesbian but this might not be so. She once dated David Alan Grier back in the ‘90s and this may not prove anything.
Lori Petty is not married. She is fifty-six and enjoying her life.
5. Lori Petty has an impressive income
Lori Petty has a net worth of 3 million dollars. She entered the show business broke. Now she can afford to buy a small island somewhere or maybe nowhere in an acting career that has lasted more than two decades.
