Kaniehtiio Horn: Personal bio

Kaniehtiio Horn was born on November 8, 1986, in Ottawa Canada to Kahn-Tineta Horn, a Mohawk former model and a political activist for the Kahnawake First Nation. His father is a lawyer of Scottish and German descent. Kaniehtiio was raised in Ottawa and on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve outside of Montreal. She has an elder sister named Waneek.

Although her actress in the show business started at a very tender age, she kept one eye on swimming and water polo as a teenager. Her elder sister Waneek became a broadcaster and served as a co-captain of the Canadian women’s water polo team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics this was after she suffered a stabbed in the chest by a soldier’s bayonet while holding Kaniehtiio during the Oka crisis.

Tiio started appearing in short films after her graduation and made her professional debut in 2006 for the CBC television mini-series “Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis”. She was little when the crisis but her mother and her elder sister witnessed the crisis closely.

In 2007, Tiio appeared in the drama film “The Colony”, directed by Jeff Barnaby. A year later, she appeared in the TV film “Moccasin Flats: Redemption” which earned her a Gemini Award nomination. In 2009, she starred in “The Trotsky”, directed by Jacob Tierney, portraying a Montreal high school student. Tiio also appeared in “Web of Lies”, a TV movie about a cybersecurity specialist accused of fraud, she played a hacker called Spider.

She joined the cast of the CBC television sitcom “18 to Life” as Monica Bellow. The series was picked up by the CW network. She voiced several roles in “By the Rapids”, an APTN cartoon. She starred in the low-budget slasher film “A Flesh Offering”, directed by Jeremy Torrie, playing an artist that gets lost in the woods.

From the year 2011, she started appearing in horror movies. Tiio appeared in the horror anthology film “The Theatre Bizarre” and played a priestess in Immortals. She landed the role of a Romani witch in the Netflix drama “Hemlock Grove” as Destiny Rumancek. She voiced the role of Kaniehtí:io, the Native American protagonist’s (Ratohnhake:ton) Mohawk mother, in the 2012 video game, “Assassin’s Creed III” developed by Ubisoft. She also wrote and directed her debut film that year, “The Smoke Shack”
