James Norton – Age, Career, Family, Full Facts

The name Norton is an imposingly familiar name. In school, there was this series of books the Norton Anthology of English Literature that kept us busy and tormented us. This anthology came to mind when I saw the name, James Norton. But this particular Norton is an actor and has nothing to do with some College impenetrable reading list. James Norton is most known for his role as a lead character in the British crime drama Grantchester. Here is everything you need to know about him.

James Norton – age and family

James Norton was born in July 1985 in London. His parents were both teachers by the name Lavinia Jane Norman and Hugh Biddulph Norton. Theirs was a small family as he has only sibling, a sister named Jessie who is now a medical doctor. The boy grew up in a place called Malton which is said to be at the edge of the Howardian Hills, North Yorkshire, until he was 14 for which he once commented that, “I grew up in the countryside, so I had quite a feral life up until the age of about fourteen.”

For high school, James Norton attended Ampleforth College, a Catholic school in Yorkshire. For university, James studied theology at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge majoring in Hinduism and Buddhism for which he later got a grant to travel to India where he taught and performed in schools.

James Norton – career

Norton is a stage, movie, and television actor in nearly equal proportions. He began his career on the stage of the Cambridge Arts Theatre in a Shakespearean play. He went on to appear in plays in Donmar Warehouse Theatre, Duke of York’s Theatre, London, Royal Court Theater, etc. In 2009, he made his film debut in the film “An Education”, a coming-of-age movie. In 2012, he made his television debut in an episode of “Inspector George Gently” on BBC One.

In 2014 and for the next two years, he was part of “Happy Valley” a crime drama on BBC One in which he played a part in all the 12 episodes of the two seasons. He played the role of  Tommy Lee Royce, the villain for which he got the praise of the Telegraph for playing the heinous role with “impressive depth”. He won the award of the Best Supporting Actor in the Crime Thriller Awards.

In the same 2014, he began playing the lead character Sidney Chambers, an Anglican priest, in the detective drama on ITV which was adapted from “The Grantchester Mysteries”, collections of short stories by James Runcie and set in the 1950s. In 2016, he was in “War & Peace” on BBC One. He was in the mini-series “The Trial of Christine Keeler” which is to be aired in 2019. He is also in the American sci-fi series on HBO that is expected to come on air in 2020.

In the film aspect, he was in “Cheerful Weather for the Wedding” in 2012. In 2013, he was in “Belle” set in 18th-century English society in which he played the role of the title character’s suitor. In 2014, he was in the biographical film “Mr. Turner”.

Health

James has type 1 diabetes. This type of diabetes is caused by the error in the system which sees the body immunity attack the cells where the hormone insulin is located. In contrast, type 2 diabetes is caused by obesity (and poor diet). James is just one in about a quarter of a million people who have type 1 diabetes in England including a certain Theresa May.

James has talked extensively about his condition. He said it was in their family and that only their father doesn’t have it. He discovered that he had the condition when he was 22 years old and despite the initial shock, he has risen up to the occasion and in the theater where he has to be on stage for up to 90 minutes, he has had custom designers make special pockets where he could hide sugar tablets and stealthily take them when the giddiness of diabetes reared its head.

Partner

James Norton used to date Jessie  Buckley the Irish singer and actress who first made a name for herself as a reality star before going on to boss shows on BBC including the iconic “War & Peace” adapted from the novel of the same name by Leo Tolstoy and the musical drama “Wild Rose”. The two broke up in 2017.

The Metro reported in May 2018 that James Norton was in a relationship with Imogen Poots, confirming a rumor that began making the rounds on the internet in December 2017. Around 2010/2011, Ms. Poots was in a relationship with the Russian actor Anton Yelchin. The relationship didn’t make the two man and wife, here comes Norton. Norton is 35, Imogen Poots the actress from “28 Weeks Later” sci-fi movie is 30. It would only be a matter of time before we hear something – or nothing.

James Norton – Net worth and height

As an actor, height is rather expected of you and James Norton is a tall chap. He stands at a proud 6 feet 1 inch or 1.85 meters tall. As an actor, being rich is more than rather expected of you and James Norton is a rich man. He is worth six million dollars. This might not look like a big deal, but for an actor with less than forty acting credits to his name, this should be a big deal. In 2014, James bought a house in Peckam, London.
