Grant Ward: Five Questions About the Character Answered

Characters, TV Shows

Grant Ward is that fictional character that consciously or unconsciously lives in the head of many fans of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”. It has even been argued that Brett Dalton who played the character of Grant Ward may not get a character that is so complex yet so alluring on TV again. But this is Hollywood, land of the creatives and everything is possible. There have been so many questions surrounding his character and we have waded in to answer all of it.

Is Grant Ward Hydra?

Grant Douglas Ward grew up in Massachusetts, based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), a fictional peacekeeping and spy agency in a world of superheroes. He had a troubled childhood as he was constantly abused by his older brother and his parents.

Growing up with his family was torture as he sometimes witnesses how his older brother maltreats his younger brother to the point of even throwing him inside a well until he rescued him. He had a sister whom he lost her contacts. He was living in an unbearable world so in order to set his mind free from the torture he planned to kill his brother Christian by setting his family house ablaze.

Grant Ward would later meet John Garrett, a Hydra double agent within S.H.I.E.L.D., who trains him to be a skilled agent and grew in the ranks to become one of the leaders of Hydra.

How did he Die?

How do traitors die? Jed Whedon had already disclosed when the series was conceived that Grant Ward would be a traitor, not on a larger scale but on a small scale so it happened that Grant Ward had to die. How did he die? Grant Ward died in the tenth episode of the third season after he attacked Coulson who then killed him with his prosthetic hand with his body subsequently taken over by big bad villain Hive.

Many did not envision his death due to the fact that his character has so much to offer in the series but the creators had other ideas and even when Grant Ward was killed by Coulson, the show never lost its verve, or so it seems.

Do Skye and Ward Sleep Together?

He developed a nice friendship with his fellow agents. His company with them was never a boring one as he was not really anti-social. He had a sexual relationship with Melinda May, a highly-skilled S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, nicknamed the Cavalry.

However, the same thing cannot be said about his relationship with Skye. Obviously they cherished each other and does most times together but Grant Ward did not sleep with Skye. It was clear that he once nursed feelings for her, but Skye resented him after he betrayed the team. It was a love that was meant to happen but Ward’s manipulative nature and willingness to work against Phil Coulson and his team put an end to the would-be love story.
