My obsession with the Ghanaian movie industry started when I was in College and Gloria Osei Sarfo was part of my many Varsity nostalgias. She was not a big name actress then but the way she delivered her lines would make you say with a certainty that she could be underrated, unlucky or both. Then she landed a role in the local sitcom Efiewura  which introduced her to the entertainment industry properly, justifying some people who have supported her from day one. This is not a fan entry, here is all you should know about the actress.

Gloria Osei Sarfo: Age

Gloria Osei Sarfo is a daughter of a soldier. She was born and raised in Burma Camp Accra Ghana on April 4 in the year she would not tell anyone. Gloria just like some of her colleagues in the African entertainment industry prefer to hide their year of birth for some reasons we are still grappling to find out. She attended Ghana Senior High School (GHANASS) in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

She wanted to be newscaster, she must have envisioned her life through the lens of Christine Amanpour as she would always read news to her siblings as a child, insisting they rate her delivery. She would later discover her acting talent which launched her to fame.

Gloria Osei Sarfo started her career in the early 2000’s in a handful of minor roles on television. She appeared in Revele Films’ “Hotel Saint James”. her moment of breakthrough in the industry came when started playing the role of Nana Ama in “Efiewura”. “Efiewura” is a popular Ghanaian television sitcom that airs on TV3 Ghana, in the Akan language. The series focuses on how landlords treat tenants and the relationship that exists between tenants. The series has won many television awards.

Gloria also appeared in the 2011 Ghanaian Nigerian drama film “Somewhere in Africa” which was directed by Frank Rajah Arase and starring Majid Michel. Gloria also played appeared in the movie “Akwaaba” and the film “Living with Trisha”.

In 2020, she was the only Ghanaian actress to be shortlisted in the AMVCA 2020 nomination in the acting category with Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s sequel film “The Perfect Picture: 10 Years Later”. Gloria was up against some of Nollywood’s best actresses like Toni Tones who starred in “King of Boys”, Eucharia Anunobi who appeared in “The Foreigner’s God”, “Tina Mba”  who starred in “The Set Up”, and Mary Lazarus for her role in “Size 12″.

Speaking about her nomination, Gloria expressed confidence that she would bring the award home. Honestly, this is so huge, I feel so heavy and very optimistic… my friends are saying I’m the only one representing the country… there is no way Nigeria will honour only their countrymen, definitely, some will go to other countries and since I’m the only one representing Ghana I’m sure I will be bringing the award home,” she told GhanaWeb.

And it was a statement that came to fruition. Gloria won Best Supporting Actress at the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. She seems to have everything going on well for her and it can only get better. She also appeared in films like “The Most Beautiful Hour”, “Friday Night” and others. Glory Osei Sarfo is also a presenter.

Rift with Yvonne Nelson

Celebrity fights and cold wars will never phase out as long as the entertainment industry exists in the Milky Way or wherever we are. These celebrity rifts often start from social media with the fans in the comment session as spectators with their crazy contributions. Yvonne Nelson once made a post stating that the entertainment industry is full of people with hate and jealousy. “An INDUSTRY full of HATE & JEALOUSY. Learn to love one another and see how God will BLESS you!” This she tweeted.

This wasn’t going to go unanswered; it didn’t go unanswered as writer and film director Kobi Rana fired some shots at Yvonne saying the actress has never supported anyone in the industry. “You have never posted or supported anybody’s movie in your entire life. Today, you cry about support. Let us not preach LOVE and practice otherwise. We are ALL involved in making the INDUSTRY strong”.

While these generated heated arguments, Gloria Osei Sarfo joined the fight, on Kobi’s side. “Well I understand where Kobi is coming from, cos truthfully, that was the impression almost every one of us had about Yvonne honestly but I guess things have changed now, maybe our sister has realized it’s not a good thing, and she is calling for a change in that direction…” she posted on Instagram. However, her comment did not sit well with Yvonne Nelson who made another post to slam all ’em haters. It was messy. But Gloria has revealed that she doesn’t have any fight with Yvonne and that she supports her movies.

Relationship

Glory Sarfo is not married but she is very concerned about hearing the wedding bells. She once expressed concern about the pressure to settle down especially the ones coming from the family. “Me personally, the one after me is married, so when it gets to the gatherings and family meetings and all that, chalie, the bashing is too much everybody,” Sarfo said.

Gloria seems to have met her match in the industry. She is currently dating Mikki Osei Berko also known as Dadaboat. The actress took to Instagram and posted an image of herself and Dadaboat with the caption: “Thank God for Grace I’ll soon tell my story God is good It pays to wait, let’s continue to love one another while we educate ourselves and take our safety measures seriously Love you always @dadaboatgh Watch this space guys. Thanks for all the prayers, love, and support”.
