She has won hearts as a runway model, she has appeared in many films and television series with her role as Gisele in the Fast & Furious four earning her praise from critics and fans alike. And of course, you know she is the Wonder Woman. She has also sparked controversy following a post she shared online during the Israeli and Gaza conflict. Gal Gadot was born on April 30, 1985, in Petah Tikva, Israel to Irit who worked as a teacher and an Engineer father named Michael Gadot. In Hebrew, her first name means “wave” and her surname means “riverbanks”. She has a younger sister.

The actress grew up in Rosh HaAyin where she was weaned in the teachings of Jewish, Israeli environment”. She is of Polish-Jewish, Austrian-Jewish, German-Jewish, and Czech-Jewish descent. During her high school days, she majored in Biology and was a good basketball player due to her intimidating height. She later studied law and international relations at the IDC Herzliya college before completing her two mandatory years of service in the Israel Defense Forces.

Gal Gadot started her career as a model. In 2004, she won the Miss Israeli Beauty Pageant at the age of 18 years. As a model, Gal Gadot has modeled for Miss Sixty, Huawei smartphones, Captain Morgan rum, Gucci fragrances, Vine Vera skincare ranges, and Jaguar Cars. She was the face of Gucci’s Bamboo perfume brand in 2015. It is safe to say that she was not just a model but a supermodel.

After her graduation from college, she became interested in the acting industry and she attended her first audition for the part of Bond girl Camille Montes in the spy film “Quantum of Solace”. Although she was not selected for the film she kept her contacts open. In 2009, she landed the role of Gisele Yashar in the action film “Fast & Furious”, the fourth film in the Fast & Furious franchise after starring in an Israeli drama film “Bubot” a year earlier.

In 2010, she reprised her role of Gisele in the “Fast & Furious” franchise Gadot before portraying the role of Wonder Woman in the superhero film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. For her role, she received swordsmanship, Kung Fu, kickboxing, capoeira, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training.  Gadot’s performance as the superhero, which was the character’s first appearance in the film, was hailed as one of the best parts of the film.

She has appeared in the action-comedy “Keeping Up with the Joneses” where she played a secret agent, alongside Zach Galifianakis, Jon Hamm, and Isla Fisher. She also provided the voice of Shank in the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film “Ralph Breaks the Internet”. Gal Gadot appeared in the music video of Maroon 5 and Cardi B “Girls Like You”. She has won a couple of awards and she is still going strong in the show business.

Gal Gadot participated in mandatory military service when she was 20, this happens to be during the 2006 war with Lebanon which means she participated in what some see as a war of aggression on the part of Israel. There are people who would want to drag Gadot for this going as far as calling her a child- and women-killer on Social Media. But there is a defense for Gadot, she is an Israeli and she had no choice. But she has not always not had a voice.

In July 2014, Gal Gadot took to her Facebook page to share a picture of herself and her daughter praying for the people of Israel, accompanied by a write-up.  “I am sending my love and prayers to my fellow Israeli citizens,” she wrote. “Especially to all the boys and girls who are risking their lives protecting my country against the horrific acts conducted by Hamas, who are hiding like cowards behind women and children…We shall overcome!!! Shabbat Shalom! #weareright #freegazafromhamas #stopterror #coexistance #loveidf”.

The politics of Israel and Palestine is a tasty one. There are many who see Israel as an occupying force in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and other territories Palestine claims as theirs. The fact that Palestine is not a recognized country is one, the fact that many Palestinians live in conditions that most United Nations bodies have declared sub-human is another, and the fact that Hamas one of the militant Palestinian party is seen as a terrorist group in Israel, and also that Israel hits Hamas targets from time to time are issues that do not stand well with many neutrals. And there were backlashes. Many rights groups associated with the survival of Palestine and Muslim rights have not only condemned Gal but disassociated themselves from events with Gadot in it. For instance, in January 2018, Amani al-Khatahtbeh, the creator of MuslimGirl magazine, said she would not be accepting Revlon’s Changemaker award.

“As much as this means to me,” she wrote in a letter she made public on Twitter, “I cannot accept his award from Revlon with Gal Gadot as the ambassador. Her vocal support of the Isreali Defense Forces’ actions in Palestine goes against MuslimGirl.co’s morals and values. I can’t, in good conscience, accept this award from the brand and celebrate Gal’s ambassadorship after the IDF imprisoned a 16-year-old girl named Ahed Tamimi last month… From the bottom of my heart, I feel I would not embody the meaning of the Changemaker Award if I were to accept it in these circumstances.”

Gal Gadot is married to Israeli real estate developer Yaron Varsano. They tied the knot in 2008 and their marriage is blessed with two daughters. Gal Gadot has a net worth of 10 million dollars.
