If you have watched Game of Thrones (who hasn’t?) you have probably laughed at Freddie Stroma when he told Jamie Lannister and Bronn his name – Dickon Tarly. You could have also marveled at his skills in the Harry Potter series. And these aren’t all there are to Stroma; he’s had a decent career and some life outside of the screen, and here are all the things you need to know.

Age and birth

Freddie Stroma was born in London. You probably expected to see names like Berkshire and Oxfordshire about his birth. Well, you are not totally disappointed as the boy grew up in Berkshire and had his high school education in Oxfordshire.

Stroma’s birth name is Frederic Wilhelm C.J. Sjöströ. And if this sounds foreign to you, it is because it actually is. Stroma’s father Stefan Sjöström is Swedish and his mother, Crystal, German. Being born and raised in England, Stroma is what you may call a dye-in-the-wool Briton.

Freddie Stroma studied neuroscience at the University of London. Before he entered the university, he was already an actor of excellent repute, appeared in a handful of British TV shows and having being mentored by the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. In fact, while in the university, he had to take one full year off to feature in Harry Potter.

Freddie Stroma: Career and movie

Freddie Stroma’s appearance in Harry Potter as Cormac McLaggen is the acting credit for which he is most known today. McLaggen is one of the thousands of witches in the series. He is a  Gryffindor student and has ties to the Ministry of Magic. His major storyline involves his trying to keep his place in their wizardly sports team of which Harry Potter is captain.

This is how Wikipedia described the character of McLaggen: “Cormac is shown as an unsympathetic Gryffindor character, and his Gryffindor bravery is both a strength and a flaw: he is foolhardy and proud, bordering on arrogant.”

Freddie appeared in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009, then Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, in 2010, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. in 2011.

Freddie has also appeared in the Game of Thrones. He played the role of Dickon Tarly, the older brother of Samwell Tarly and the heir to the Tarly’s House which later included High Garden. He was killed together with his father with dragon fire when they refused to bend the knee to the Dragon Queen Daenerys.

Freddie Stroma was the lead character of H.G Wells in the period drama/science fiction television series “Time After Time” on ABC. Other notable appearances of his include “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” the Michael Bay’s war film from 2016 in which he played the role of a CIA undercover agent in Lybia, “Unreal” the romantic comedy series on Lifetime which made his search for a soulmate a reality by meeting his future wife on the set, and “After the Dark”, the psychological and science fiction movie set in Indonesia.

1. Freddie Stroma dropped Sjostrom as a surname because of Fredrik Sjöström, the Swedish ice hockey professional who made his name in the National Hockey League. Stroma is not the first to alter his surname due to a clash. Peter Stormare was born Peter Storm until he met a student with the same name and elected to call himself the Swedish version of Stormer.

2. Stroma was born on January 8, 1987. He is 32 years old. Looking at his baby face, you would never have guessed his age right. His character was a 19-century guru who invented a time machine and traveled to 2007.

3. Freddie Stroma is a married man. He got married to Johanna Braddy, the American actress he met and fell in love with onset. You should know her. She played the leading or major character roles in the 2009 horror film “The Grudge 3”, in the gothic horror “Hurt” (2009), in the teen comedy “Easy A” (2010), and in the horror-thriller “The Levenger Tapes” (2011).

The couple got married in the bride’s home town of Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

4. Stroma is a model. He was part of the models during the Acne Underwear Collection Autumn/Winter 2008. We doubt if he still models today but we suppose once you modeled something, teenagers will continue to see you as a model.
