In 1971, she appeared in the comedy-drama film “Such Good Friends” as Marian and the same year, she played the character of Ema Letha Kusic in the Universal comedy “How to Frame a Figg”. Elaine made her Broadway debut in “Sugar” the musical adaptation of the film “Some Like It Hot” the following year.

Elaine did not marry Salinger, rather he married TV producer John Levoff in 1985. The union was blessed with a son named Michael but the marriage ended in divorce in 1992.
In 1999, Elaine married playwright, screenwriter, and Pulitzer Prize winner Neil Simon. As Neil Simon aged, he started battling with a kidney failure with his long term friend Bill Evans donating one of his kidneys so he could a little bit longer in 2004. Neil had other ailments like Alzheimer and dementia. He died at the age of 91 on the morning of August 26, 2018.
