Diana is a Mexican actress born as Diana Elizabeth Torres in April 1988. She is currently 33 years of age. Diana Elizabeth originally hails from Culiacan, Sinaloa of Mexico. Although she has roots in Culiacan, Sinaloa, she is also an American citizen. She is of white ethnicity and there has not been any religious affiliation about her that the public is aware of. Having been born in April, her Zodiac sign is Gemini.

Diana Elizabeth’s educational journey isn’t much detailed. She studied and graduated from Casazul, Performing Arts Mexico. The most defining moment of the career of Diana Elizabeth Torres was when she bagged the lead role of ‘Jauna’ in the award-winning movie ‘East Side Sushi’, a film directed by Anthony Lucero and released by HBO, Samuel Goldwyn Films.

In this movie, Diana Elizabeth starred as Juana who is a single Mexican American mother living with her young daughter and her widowed father in the town of East Oakland, California. With the difficulties of single motherhood, she tried her hands at several works including tending her father’s fruit cart. She applied and was hired as a sous chef at the Japanese restaurant Osaka after she was robbed while operating her father’s fruit cart.

She started as a kitchen helper but soon developed an interest in the act of making sushi and after a Sushi chef quits, she was asked to help out with making Sushi. She started gaining experience and enrolled in a Sushi contest called the ‘Champions of Sushi’ which offers a first prize of $20,000. After a while, she requested to be made a Sushi chef in the restaurant but the owner, Mr. Yoshida, striving to maintain the Japanese identity of the restaurant denied her the offer. She quit her job angrily and started working in a car wash but was later selected as one of the four finalists of the Sushi competition. With her former employer and restaurant staff watching on the television, she puts up a good cooking skill in the contest but eventually came second. She was saddened after her defeat but was consoled by the fact that she has gained the respect of her fellow competitors that were mocking her and mostly, the respect of her former employer, Mr. Yoshida. The film ended with Juana being reemployed by her former employer but this time, as a Sushi chef.

This movie directed by Anthony Lucero was to go on and win multiple awards such as Best Film, Best Screenplay, and the Audience Award at the Napa Valley Film Festival, Cinequest, San Francisco. It also received excellent reviews from Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles Times, and Variety. It also brags of worldwide distribution in online platforms such as HBO, Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes since it was released in 2014. The movie also won Diana Elizabeth Torres a Diosa de Plata which is Mexico’s top film award for her role in the movie.

She has appeared in several other feature films too numerous to mention. She also makes appearances in theatres and was cast in the musical Lara, El Flacco de Oro, a presentation that showed the life and songs of the composer, Agustin Lara. She played the role of Maria Felix. It was directed by Margarita Galban.

Apart from being recognized with the Diosa de Plata award, she has won two other awards. This isn’t surprising for an actress that won ‘Best Newcomer-Female’ for one of her first lead roles. What is surprising is that she hasn’t won loads of awards.

She won the Best Newcomer – Female (Revelacion Femenina) award in 2014 for her role in East Side Sushi. She also went on to win the ‘Silver Goddess award in the year 2017. This award were given by the Mexican Cinema Journalists.
