Dawn began her professional career as an actress in 1979, at the age of 15 when she landed the role of ceremonial role of Laura, an adorable and innocent, yet alluring ballet dancer in the erotic movie Laura.
Laura, Les Ombres de l’été is a 1979 French romantic drama film about a sculptor, Paul (James Mitchell) who reconnects with an old-time sweetheart, after a very long time.
However, on noticing her 15-year-old daughter, Laura (Dawn Dunlap) who looks a lot like her when they were still in love, his interest shifts to her as he is much more impressed.
Laura in turn develops a likeness for Paul hence making her mother jealous as she now prevents any form of contact, leaving him with only a picture to make a sculptor of Laura from.
The film was directed by David Hamilton and written by Joe Morheim and André Szöts. The English title of the film was Laura: Shadows of a Summer.
In 1982, she appeared in another romantic drama film, Liar’s Moon, directed by David Fisher. The plot was about an impoverished boy who absconds with the daughter of a popular banker. In 1985 following what some refer to as “regrettable fleeting film career,”she quit the industry and moved back to her hometown, Texas. After that, she fell in love with a British billionaire, Frank Lowe who she got married and adopted the name, Lady Dawn Lowe.
