Christopher Heyerdahl was born on September 18, 1963, in British Columbia. Not much is known about his parents or siblings, however, his father emigrated from Norway to Canada in the early 1950s. Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl was his father’s cousin. Christopher Heyerdahl is of Norwegian and Scottish descent. He was raised in a house on Vancouver’s Hollyburn Mountain with no running water. One of his earlier dreams was to become a psychologist before he switched to acting.

Christopher Heyerdahl made his acting debut in 1987 in the American police procedural drama series “21 Jump Street” as Jake. This was followed by “Are You Not Afraid of the Dark” a Canadian horror anthology series. His motion picture debut came in 1994 in the movie “Highlander III: The Sorcerer”. Christopher continued to appear in other films until he joined the cast of “Stargate Atlantis” a Canadian-American adventure and military science fiction television series and part of MGM’s Stargate franchise. Christopher played the role of Todd, a Wraith who first appeared in season 3’s “Common Ground” as a prisoner of Acastus Kolya. His tattoo in the series was inspired by KISS guitarist Ace Frehley. Following the success of the series, he began to be noticed and the life of fame knocked harder.

He appeared in two episodes of the superhero series “Smallville” before landing one of his biggest screen roles in “Hell on Wheels” as Swede on AMC. “Hell on Wheels” debuted as the second-highest-rated original series in AMC history. The events of the series follow the actions of Union Pacific Railroad and its laborers, mercenaries, prostitutes, surveyors, and others who lived, worked, and died in the mobile encampment, called “Hell on Wheels”. For his role, Christopher Heyerdahl won the ACTRA Montreal Award for Outstanding Performance in the Male category in 2013. He also bagged a Leo Award for Best Supporting Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series in 2015, a Golden Maple Award for Newcomer of the year in a TV series broadcast in the U.S. in 2016, another Golden Maple Award for Best Actor in a TV series broadcast in the U.S. same year.

Christopher Heyerdahl appeared as Sam in the American dark fantasy humor series “Van Helsing”. He appeared as John Druitt in the Canadian science fiction series “Sanctuary” in 2011, the same time he was filming the series “Hell on Wheels”. That year, Christopher turned to busy Christopher as he spent most of his time in the skies flying back and forth between the Vancouver set of “Sanctuary” and the Calgary set of “Hell on Wheels”.

In 2020, he is playing the role of Oscar Wallace in the American TV series “Messiah”.
