Charlie made his acting debut at the age of 7 in the movie “Trainwreck: My Life as an Idiot” as Little Jeff. The film was based upon the autobiographical book “The Little Yellow Bus” by Jeff Nichols. The same year, he appeared in the film “I am Legend” as Ethan but the part where he was vocal didn’t make it to the final cut.
In 2009, Tahan appeared alongside Zac Efron in the drama “Charlie St. Cloud” the film was based on Ben Sherwood’s 2004 novel The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. The film narrates the story of Charlie St. Cloud’s choice between keeping a promise he made to his brother, who died in a car accident, or going after the girl he loves. It made little profit in the box office. Nevertheless, he continued to gather acting experience at the same time, looking forward to his big break.
In 2012, he voiced the character of Victor Frankenstein in the Disney 3D stop-motion-animated fantasy horror comedy “Frankenweenie”. The film is a remake of Burton’s 1984 short film of the same name and is also both a parody of and homage to the 1931 film Frankenstein, based on Mary Shelley’s book of the same name. The film was a box office success and it won the Saturn Award for Best Animated Film and was nominated for an Oscar; a Golden Globe; a BAFTA; and an Annie Award for Best Film in each respective animated category.
His career continued to rise at an exponential rate with every small feature. In 2015, he joined the cast of “Gotham”, a crime television series on Fox as Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow. He left the show in 2017. Charlie also starred in the mystery science fiction television series “Wayward Pines” as Ben Burke”.
