Category: Movies

This category is used for movies from the West which means they cover movies from the US, Canada, the UK, and other European countries, plus Australia and New Zealand. We are only interested in movies done in the English Language. We are yet to review a single movie from Asia. There are Indian and Hong Kong films in English. We do not just have the kind of resources to cover them all so there is no reason starting what we cannot finish. If we ever cover Asian movies it will be a minority endeavor so we will give it a category of itself so as not to let it get lost in the vastness of “Movie”. So far, it is only Western movies that are covered here. We also have an entry for Netflix movies but we still allow Netflix movies here as well. Which means this category covers theatrical, streaming, and TV movies. The few Nigerian movies we have published are under the entry of Nollywood.

Standing up, falling down

Standing Up, Falling Down Review: A Tale Of Two Woes

“Standing Up, Falling Down” is a movie I decided to watch because I wanted to watch a movie that would teach me something new bout human frailties and relationships. Once I read the premise, I jumped on it. The film was directed by Matt Ratner and produced by a team led by Chris Mangano. These ...

ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES

All The Bright Places Review: When Romance Meets Tragedy

Romance is a genre of movie that is easy to get wrong. And it is not hard to tell why they get this wrong. They try to make romance about romance. War films are never about war alone; there is conflict. Crime, horror, comedy, all rely on something to run. But somehow, makers of romantic ...

A fall from Grace

A Fall From Grace: A Nice Movie Served In Dirty Dish

Watching Tyler Perry’s “A Fall From Grace” reminded me of a South African play I read in High School. The play, “Sizwe Banzi Is Dead” is a one-man play. There are a couple of characters in the play and they are all played by one man. The film “A Fall From Grace” was written, produced, ...

Amazing Winter Romance

Amazing Winter Romance: Another Predictable Piece From Hallmark

My last Hallmark movie didn’t blow my mind away. My decision to watch this one is borne out of my reviewer’s curiosity which refuses to believe you are as good as your last show. “Angel Falls A Novel Holiday” is not Hallmark’s last show and even if it were, it is not the writers and ...

Just Mercy court scene

Just Mercy Is A Well-Made Emotive Piece Of Art

I have watched a handful of 2019 movies made from true-life stories. Two of them “Hustlers” and “Bombshell” did not resonate with me; while the former was largely dry, the latter was a disjointed mess of clips.  I felt that “Hustlers” and “Bombshell” may have faired better as documentaries. The Academy Awards guys do not ...

Jojo Rabbit Review

Jojo Rabbit: I Cried A Lot Watching This Movie

After I watched Taika Waititi’s “Jojo Rabbit”, I begged the head of movie content to let me review it. Today, after rereading for the ninth or tenth time what I just wrote, I am beginning to doubt if this can really pass for a movie review. If they publish this, then perhaps it can pass ...

Oscar 2020 Nominations

Oscar 2020 Nominations: Here’re Three Snubs That Hurt Us The Most

The Academy Awards announced the list of nominees yesterday and everyone is mad about it. I haven’t met one person who is entirely happy about the list although I am not entirely looking for. But going by the stuff on my timeline and offline, real-life, everyone is moaning. We do this every single year. The ...

Viktor Krum

Who played Viktor Krum in Harry Potter Series?

If someone mistakenly points a gun to your head and ask you to mention one Bulgarian actor you know or he pulls the trigger, the name of Stanislav Ianevski, the actor who played the role, Viktor Krum, in the Harry Potter series is enough to make you live for another day. The Harry Potter shooting ...

Your Excellency Movie: What Doesn’t Kill You May Make You Think

I was reluctant about watching “Your Excellency” because of its cover picture. See, one of the worst Nigerian movies I have seen in the past two years is “Chief Daddy”, I am not a fan of “Jenifa’s Diary” and I have already said my mind about “My Siblings and I“. All these shows have one ...

Little Nicky Cast

Little Nicky Cast: Where Are They Now?

20 years ago, the film “Little Nicky” was released and it flopped at the box office. But it wasn’t just about the box office flop. The critics’ hammer shattered whatever that was left from the movie’s storyline and it became a bad outing for most of the cast and director Steven Brill. Two decades have ...

The accountant 2

What is the Story of The Accountant? Will There Be The Accountant 2?

Some movies are difficult to understand. Impossible seems more like the word I need but let’s go with difficulty for now. Some movies are difficult to like. You watch you see one or two actors in it you love, you try to extend this love to the movie. You try for tens of minutes, you ...

Movies Like the Notebook

Movies Like The Notebook Are Worth Rewatching in 2020. See Reasons

“The Notebook” was made in 2004 which means it wasn’t even made last decade. A smart child born the day people first watched “The Notebook” is now in the university. Yet, the movie will not stop garnering attention, yet people won’t stop watching the movie. I was at the cinema the other day having misjudged ...
