Bokeem Woodbine: Age and early life

Bokeem Woodbine was born in Harlem, New York to an actress mother and a father who worked at a hospital. His great-grandfather was Jamaican who assisted in building the Panama Canal. When he was still little, his parents divorced following mutual understanding

Bo attended the renowned Dalton School on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and was later transferred to the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in the city. During this period, he has started playing guitar and was a member of a band. At the age of 19, he appeared as a stand-in Ernest Dickerson’s directorial debut, the hip-hop classic Juice starring Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps. He later formed a close relationship with the rapper and appeared in his music video “I Ain’t Mad at Cha” which was released four months after the death of Pac.

Bokeem Woodbine: Career

Bokeem Woodbine made his professional acting debut in 1993 as Diquan Mitchell in the crime thriller film “Strapped” on HBO. The story tells the story of 19- year-old Diquan (Bokeem) who is an ex-who was trying to turn his life around after serving time. The film featured hip hop stars like Fredro Starr, Sticky Fingaz, Busta Rhymes, Yo-Yo, and Kool Moe Dee. The same year he appeared in an episode of anthology series for teenagers “CBS Schoolbreak Special” as Steve Newberg.

In 1995, he appeared as Tyrone in the television film “Panther”. The film is a cinematic adaptation of Melvin Van Peeble’s novel Panther. Bo made other appearances in various film in the early and late ‘90s before landing a role in the action heist film “Run for the Money” as Rock in 2002.

He played the role of Detective Derek Finley on six episodes of NBC television sitcom “Battery Park”. In 2005, Bo made an appearance in an episode of Fox crime procedural drama series “Bones” as Randall Hall. A year after, he appeared in one episode of ABC police procedural drama “The Evidence”. Bo somehow lands a role in one or two of your favorite series.

Between 2007 to 2010, Bo played the role of Leon Cooley in the crime drama series “Saving Grace” on TNT. “Saving Grace” happens to be one of the TV series he made an appearance the most (28 episodes). Bokeem Woodbine appeared in 10 episodes of anthology black comedy–crime drama television series “Fargo” as Mike Milligan. The series was considered one of the best shows on television in 2015. Bo won the Black Reel Award for playing the role of Mike Milligan in the series and was nominated for other awards including Primetime Emmy Awards.

In 2019, he played the role of Jerome on “Wu-Tang: An American Saga”, a drama web television miniseries. Bokeem Woodbine is already in 2020 as he played the role of Sheriff Domingo in the upcoming fantasy comedy film “Ghostbusters 2020”.


Bokeem Woodbine is a married man. The actor got married to a lady named Mahiely very early while he was pursuing his career. His marriage doesn’t make it to the top page of blogs except when the family is spotted together in Awards or other social gatherings.
