Boity Thulo is a television personality and rapper who found her truest form of expression in acting. From shuttling between sets of TV commercials to cooking and delivering rap lines in the studio plus other activities that keeps stars awake and busy, Boity Thulo’s life is not a boring one and this post shouldn’t be boring. Boity Thulo: Age and bio

Boity Thulo is an April baby. She was born on April 28, 1990, in  Potchefstroom, North West South Africa. Her mother is named Modiehi Thulo. The details of her father have not been unearthed by the media as it seems she prefers to keep it in a tight lid. Boity was raised by her grandmother under whom she attended Potchefstroom primary school and later Potchefstroom Girls High School from which she proceeded to join Monash University for her studies in Psychology and Criminology.

Her time at Monash University was cut short following her mother’s inability to provide for her varsity fees. Other sources say that she dropped out herself to pursue a degree in broadcasting. Whichever the case, the fact was that Boity dropped out of school in her third year.

Update: She later revealed to News24 that it was because of tuition fees.

Shortly after she dropped out, she appeared in a friend’s music video which went viral around the country and led to her being signed by a casting agency. She appeared on a Wimpy commercial in 2010, cementing her new career in the show business. Boity Thulo is 30 years old.

Boity Thulo: Career

Boity Thulo worked as a presenter for the YOTV educational show “Crib Notes” in 2011. She co-hosted “The Media Career Guide Show” alongside Stevie Frenchie on SABC 1. By this time, people have begun to see how talented she is. She focused on television shows at the beginning of her career and worked as a cohost alongside Mpumi Mbether for the “Zoned” show on SABC 1. The show was largely a user-generated interactive multi-platform magazine show. She was featured as a guest judge in a dance competition “Turn it out” for SABC.

In 2012, Boity made her television debut in the soap opera “Rockville” as Mpho Bogatsu. The show revolves around two different black families-the middle-class Bogatsus and the working-class Mabasos, who have are embroiled in an ongoing feud over a series of misunderstandings and hardships. Boity appeared in all four seasons of the soap opera on Mzansi Magic.

She made appearing in television show a permanent thing for her as she was featured in  Kenny Kunene’s Comedy Central Roast. She starred as a guest on SABC 1 sitcom called Ses’ Top La. She also starred in the 2nd season of Reality Check alongside other prominent actors including the musician Bongani Fassie and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo. She joined “Club 808”, e.tv’s music show as a host alongside Cyprian Ndlovu.

Boity starred on a comedy short-film “Dear Betty”, where she played “Betty”. She also was featured in the film “Mrs. Right Guy” where she played “Marie”. Boity Thulo is also an accomplished rapper with an award, she released her debut single “Wuz Dat”, featuring Nasty C in August 2018. The song won at the 2018 South African Hip-Hop Awards for the category “Best Collabo”. Her second single “Bakae” came in February 2019.

Boity Thulo has her own a reality show “Boity: Own Your Throne” which debuted in February 2020 on BET Africa and was described by Cosmopolitan South Africa as a show that “balances her business, music, family and her spiritually”. Boity said she was “extremely excited to partner with BET Africa for the first time and “for choosing ‘Own Your Throne’ as the first local reality show to premiere on the continent.”

“The series will give viewers insights into my personal life on many levels,” she added.

Relationship with Cassper Nyovest, other facts

Boity Thulo was in a relationship with rapper Cassper Nyovest between 2014-2015. It was a whirlwind romance as they kept falling against love while they dated. After one of their fights, Cassper showed up in one of her modeling shoots and asked her for another chance, she accepted him back. They attended the MTV Africa Awards at Durban in 2015 before splitting finally.

Boity soon met Stanley Obiamalu a Nigerian music video director in 2017. They dated until 2019 before rumors went round that they are no longer an item. Aside from her dating problems, she is also a successful businesswoman. Today, Boity seems to be single but she has what could be said to be flirting with media personality Maps Maponyane whom she was spotted kissing on her reality show and later said, “We would look cute together. Our kids would be really pretty. We would be a power couple.”

She later added she was joking and she as well might be but no one can rule out anything.

She collaborated with Sissy-Boy for a jean collection which was predicted to be about “being sexy and celebrating curves”. She partnered with Impulse SA in creating limited edition fragrances.

Boity is also involved in some charity works. She is a goodwill ambassador for the “Thusa A Girl Child” a charity founded to help underprivileged girls living in poverty. In 2014, she poised as one of the 36 celebrities who posed naked for the Marie Claires magazine “Naked Issues” which was designed to raise money for some Lunch Box Fund in order to help orphaned kids and indigent people living in South Africa.
