Betsy Russell was born on September 6, 1963, in San Diego, California to Constance and Richard Lion Russell, a stock analyst who was famous for his newsletter about the stock market for over 50 years (Dow Theory Letters). Her maternal grandfather Max Lerner was an author and an avid journalist. Her paternal grandmother Hortense Lion was a writer. She has three sisters and a brother. Betsy comes from a family line that peddled words for a living and it didn’t quite long for her to discover her own career path as a little girl.

She picked interest in acting at aged eight and it ushered her the opportunity to appear in a Pepsi commercial in high school where she rode a horse. She graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1981 and moved to Los Angeles where she enrolled in acting classes and eventually landing her first role as an actor. She wasn’t done with education and this doesn’t come as a surprise being that her family is well-learned, she went back to school and completed a master’s program in Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica.

Career

Betsy Russell made her motion picture appearance in 1982 in the film “Let’s Do it” as Kittie. Not the kind of start she might have envisioned but it didn’t take a generation for her to land a role that cemented her name in the acting industry. After her first television appearance in the series “The Powers of Matthew Star” where she delivered just one line, she landed her breakout role as Jordan Leigh-Jenson in the sex comedy “Private School”. The series was developed following the success of the series “Private Lessons”.

As Betsy continued to test the acting waters, she began to make choices on her own as she declined an audition offer in a movie(Silverado) many believed would have changed her career in a big way. However, speaking in an interview, she said, “Everything happens for a reason. I always believe my career would have been different had I done that part. I can’t say if it would have been better or worse. I’ve had a great run”. Despite not starring in the movie, Betsy Russell has indeed had a good run.

The actress has also appeared on TV series such as “The A-Team” before she went on a hiatus and returned in “Saw III” portraying the character of John Kramer’s ex-wife, Jill Tuck. She also appeared in the sequels, “Saw IV”, “Saw V”, “Saw VI”, and “Saw 3D”

Betsy Russell is also an accomplished writer. The actress holds a real-estate license and is a certified hypnotist. Her Master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica fuels her passion to help humanity heal easily. She is also a life coach and never sits back when it comes to doing charitable works.

Betsy Russell: Marriage and Net worth

Betsy met her husband Vince Van Patten actor and tennis star at the Playboy Mansion where she normally went to visit her Grandfather, who was a close friend of Hugh Heffner’s. Casual visits to her granddad soon ended as soon as Vince entered the picture and in August 1988, they engaged and on May 27, 1989, in North Hollywood with many celebrities turning up for their wedding reception at Van Patten’s father’s Sherman Oaks home.

The marriage was blessed with two sons Richard Van Patten born March 1993 and Vincent Van Patten, Jr. born September 3, 1995. It was during this period that Betsy took a break from acting to raise her boys before making a comeback to the screen. Betsy and Vice lived together for 13 years before they divorced in 2001. Betsy has not remarried and no one knows if she is thinking about that for now.
