Alex’s birth name is Alexander O’Lachlan. Alex was born on August 24, 1976, in Canberra, Australia to a father who taught physics and astronomy in Sydney and a mother who worked as a nurse. He has a younger sister named Jennifer. His parents divorced when he was two years of age.

When he was a child, he suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder (unreasonable thoughts and fears that lead to compulsive behaviors). Alex O’Loughlin started his career in theater plays Chekhov and Tolstoy in Sydney. After playing the role of a member of the Australian military forces in a TV commercial, Alex launched his acting career fully.

He landed his first big break in the 2004 Australian romantic comedy film “Oyster Farmer” as Jack Flange, a criminal who steals money from a bank van and send the money to himself through a post in order to pay the medical bills for his ill sister. He later joins a group of oyster farmers under the pretense that he’s a citizen looking for work in order not to be caught. Diana Glenn, an Australian veteran actor also starred in the movie. At the box office, it was a success, and it also enjoyed free promotion because of reports that Alex was a top contender for the role of James Bond.

Although the actor did audition for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, he lost out to actor Daniel Craig. Alex landed his second role in the competitive world of the show business in the Australian-American film “Man-Thing” as Eric Fraser. The film failed woefully at the box office and had negative reviews.

Alex later appeared as a sadistic site webmaster Michael Carter in the crime horror film “Feed” a film that tells the story of how a man consented to have his penis cut off and eaten by his lover. He has also appeared as a serial killer in another CBS television series “Criminal Minds” another police procedural series.

Aside from acting, Alex is a skilled fisherman. He said in an interview that he grew up learning how to finish. In fact, he boasted about his fishing skills.
